On Oct. 17, 2025, allcove Palo Alto YAG members Brian Lee, Eugene Hong, and Karis Chan partnered with the International Rescue Committee to host an event that aimed to reflect the diverse background of the Bay Area. The partnership was an extension of YAG members’ own project, Teens of Bay Area — a student-run online publication based off of Humans of New York — and included a vision board and sushi-roll making activity.
In the first hour of the event, members of IRC each compiled images, symbols, and other art work (some drawn by themselves) onto a sheet of construction paper. The finished product? A combination of favorite past memories, adored cultural foods, and members’ hopes and dreams.

In the last half, members gathered for a sushi-roll making activity. Tofu skin, carrots, cucumbers and furikake covered a bed of traditional sushi rice. The seaweed ties it all together. Some threw their eyebrows at the combination, others were eager to try — most were curious.
This is just one of dozens of events hosted by YAG per year.
